Things that have surprised me about Wildhorse Canyon
1. We have pizza delivery!
No, Dominoes doesn't come to our door but "Prancing Pony" does! The kitchen makes pizza for 5 bucks and they even delivery it to your door on wednesdays!
2. We have our own "Starbucks"!
Every Friday we have "Morning Mudd" before work where the Espresso bar is open and we can get a latte or any drink for a buck or 75 cents with your own mug! How great is that?
3. We get free food on the weekends!
We get to eat on camp with campers on the weekends which means - not as much cooking as I thought and our food budget is lower :)
4. We can order groceries through the kitchen on sunday afternoons called "Muddy Market" and its CHEAP!
****okay everything is about food! I need to refocus! :)
5. My job is a VERY good workout!
6. Life has slowed down tremendously!
This is a year for me to be discipled and sit at Jesus' feet as Mary did instead of being a Martha.
7. There are so many great women here that I can really learn from!
8. I didn't know how much I missed spending time with girls!
This weekend some of the girls went to Washington to visit family which left us feeling bored and restless so we packed up and went to Sisters, OR. There is a great lady named Marianne who opens up her home for people that live at the camp because town is so far away. Me, Doody (Diane), Amber, Emily, and Jamie went to town and stayed the night. It was great to go to Target and Michael's and such!
9. It is REALLY in the middle of nowhere!!! I know I keep saying that but I can't wait for my parents to come out and see what I am talking about!
10. There is beauty among the wreckage.
Last week on our day off Kathi (married intern's small group leader) took all the girl interns on a walk. We were all thinking we were headed to the river because of the direction we were going but then she came upon an abandoned (kinda creepy!) building and said, "This is it!" We all just looked at her like she was crazy and Janelle said, "I'm not going in there!" But we all followed Kathi into an old Rajneesh freezer. There was nothing in there and we were all puzzled. Then she asked us to sing "Jesus Loves Me." The acoustics were INCREDIBLE and of course tears came to my eyes. We worshipped all together for quite a while and it was beautiful!
God is soo good and has been really working on me since I got here. I have questioned God so many times about our purpose for being here and why we left Maryland but He is faithful and is doing a work in us. Romans 8:28
*Wildhorse Canyon has undergone a name change to be Washington Family Ranch. The Washington Family donated the land to Young Life and we want to honor them with the name so from now on I will refer to camp as WFR.
